Culture is key for best performance

16/11/2023

At Rickard Luckin, we've earned an enviable reputation for our learning and development offering.

As well as being an ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) accredited training firm, we have a first-class reputation for training tax students with ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) and CIOT (Chartered Institute of Taxation).

However, although technical expertise obviously remains crucial to our success, along with training in ‘human  skills’, there has been a fundamental shift towards nurturing the ‘whole’ employee.

A holistic approach

As a business built on successful relationships, we recognise that work and home life cannot be completely separated. We’re therefore fully committed to a holistic approach to team development, acknowledging that an individual’s professional success is intertwined with their wellbeing both at work and home. That’s why we launched our ‘Work Well, Live Well’ cultural programme.

We’ve taken a long-term view. It’s our belief that by providing stimulating work, looking after the individual, and providing opportunities to flourish, the business benefits will follow. We want every team member to feel valued, supported, and motivated to perform at their best, so that we can play to our collective strengths. It’s about working smarter, not harder.

To enable this, we have adapted our policies to accommodate individual needs and life situations. Our agile working policy, for instance, means that we have core hours that our team can flex their day around: 10am – noon and 2pm – 4pm. This allows them to go to the gym, accommodate family responsibilities, or catch up with friends knowing they have our full support.

Championing wellbeing

Our employee wellbeing programme encompasses mental health support and initiatives designed to promote mental resilience and healthy lifestyles. We’ve introduced ‘Wellbeing Champions’ – colleagues others can turn to if they need support.

Each team member is also entitled to ‘wellbeing time’, either to manage their own wellbeing or support others with theirs. This might be going for a walk or sharing a cuppa with time to talk.

Over the last few years, we have  refurbished all three of our offices in Essex, to create energising and flexible workspaces that accommodate our agile working policy, and we provide each team member with a laptop and mobile phone to help them manage their work-life balance.

We promote continuous learning for all, fostering both professional and personal growth. Our mentoring initiative embraces knowledge sharing across the business, providing valuable guidance and support.

Our annual company awards are centred around our values and driven by nominations from across the team. Beyond the workplace, we foster camaraderie through social events,  and encourage everyone to take part in community and charitable initiatives.

By investing in our team and the ‘whole’ employee, the business benefits are clear: a highly engaged and motivated team that wants to deliver their best.
