On Saturday 9 May 2026, Rickard Luckin joined 31 other local businesses at Roots Hall Stadium for the annual World Cup-on-Sea charity event, competing in a 7-a-side football tournament in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
The team delivered a strong performance throughout the group stages, winning all three games, scoring eight goals and conceding just one.
In the round of 16, we came up against Cool Thing Records, the tournament’s leading fundraisers. After a hard-fought contest, we secured a narrow 1–0 victory to progress.
The quarter-final presented an even tougher test against a strong EGL Homecare side. Despite a determined effort, we were edged out in a close 2–1 defeat. EGL Homecare went on to reach the final, where they faced UHY London, a team we had beaten 1–0 in our opening group match. UHY London ultimately won the tournament, securing their second World Cup-on-Sea winners trophy in three years, having also beaten us in the final two years ago.
A big well done to Ali Hussain, Andy Paul, Charlie Seagrave, Connor Hardie, Freddie Fowler, Harrison Barrett, Harvey Coates, Mark Brooks, Matthew Coppen, and Reece Dabbs for their commitment, teamwork, and excellent performance throughout the day. While we had hoped to go further, reaching the quarter-finals was a fantastic achievement and made for an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Thanks to a combination of fundraising activities and generous contributions, Rickard Luckin raised an impressive £1,204 for the British Heart Foundation. The total amount raised across the event is expected to be announced soon.
